VLC Media Player RealText Subtitle Overflow
Posted Mar 3, 2012
Authored by Tobias Klein, SkD, juan vazquez | Site metasploit.com

This Metasploit module exploits a stack buffer overflow vulnerability in VideoLAN VLC versions prior to 0.9.6. The vulnerability exists in the parsing of RealText subtitle files. In order to exploit this, this module will generate two files: The .mp4 file is used to trick your victim into running. The .rt file is the actual malicious file that triggers the vulnerability, which should be placed under the same directory as the .mp4 file.

This Metasploit module exploits a stack-based buffer overflow in DJ Studio Pro 5.1.6.5.2. When handling a .pls file, DJ Studio will copy the user-supplied data on the stack without any proper bounds checking done beforehand, therefore allowing code execution under the context of the user.

This Metasploit module exploits a vulnerability found in ASUS Net4Switch's ipswcom.dll ActiveX control. A buffer overflow condition is possible in multiple places all because of the poor use of the CxDbgPrint() function, which allows remote attackers to gain arbitrary code execution under the context of the user.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-022-1
Posted Feb 28, 2012
Authored by Mandriva | Site mandriva.com

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-022 - Security issues were identified and fixed in mozilla firefox and thunderbird. An integer overflow in the libpng library can lead to a heap-buffer overflow when decompressing certain PNG images. This leads to a crash, which may be potentially exploitable. The mozilla firefox and thunderbird packages have been upgraded to the latest respective versions which is not affected by this security flaw. Additionally the rootcerts packages has been upgraded to the latest version as of 2012/02/18 and the NSS library has been rebuilt accordingly to pickup the changes. This is a symbolic advisory correction because there was a clash with MDVSA-2012:022 that addressed libpng.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0333-01 - Updates have been made to the Linux kernel. SG_IO ioctl SCSI requests on partitions or LVM volumes could be passed to the underlying block device, allowing a privileged user to bypass restrictions and gain read and write access to the entire block device. A local, unprivileged user could use an integer overflow flaw in drm_mode_dirtyfb_ioctl() to cause a denial of service or escalate their privileges. A local, unprivileged user could use an integer overflow flaw in drm_mode_dirtyfb_ioctl() to cause a denial of service or escalate their privileges. Oracle Java True Type Font IDEF Opcode Parsing Remote Code Execution
Posted Feb 23, 2012
Authored by Peter Vreugdenhil | Site tippingpoint.com

A vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Oracle Java. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the way Java handles True Type Font files. When reading a font file, Java will use the MaxInstructionSize from the maxp table to create a heap memory location to store all the Instruction Definition found in the Font Program 'fpgm' table. However, when Java encounters an IDEF opcode (0x89) in the opcode stream it never checks the size of the MaxInstructionSize which can result in a heap buffer overflow. This can lead to remote code execution under the context of the current process.

Zero Day Initiative Advisory 12-033 - This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of ABB WebWare. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within RobNetScanHost.exe and its parsing of network packets accepted on port 5512. The parsing of 'Netscan' packets with opcodes 0xE and 0xA are vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow with a fixed allocation of 20 bytes. This vulnerability can be exploited to execute arbitrary code in the context of the service process (LocalSystem).
