php-decoda 3.x Cross Site Scripting
Posted May 2, 2012
Site redteam-pentesting.de

RedTeam Pentesting discovered a cross site scripting vulnerability in the PHP markup parser Decoda. This allows attackers that should be restricted to the markup supported by Decoda to specify a JavaScript event handler for an iframe tag. Depending on the usage of Decoda, this allows attackers to execute JavaScript code in the context of other users in a web application that uses Decoda. php-decoda versions 3.x prior to 3.3.3 are affected.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-032-1
Posted Apr 17, 2012
Authored by Mandriva | Site mandriva.com

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-032 - Security issues were identified and fixed in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. Security researchers Blair Strang and Scott Bell of Security Assessment found that when a parent window spawns and closes a child window that uses the file open dialog, a crash can be induced in shlwapi.dll on 32-bit Windows 7 systems. This crash may be potentially exploitable. Firefox prevents the dropping of javascript: links onto a frame to prevent malicious sites from tricking users into performing a cross-site scripting attacks on themselves. Security researcher Soroush Dalili reported a way to bypass this protection. Various other issues were also addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-1401-2
Posted Mar 23, 2012
Authored by Ubuntu | Site security.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu Security Notice 1401-2 - USN-1401-1 fixed vulnerabilities in Xulrunner. This update provides the corresponding fixes for Thunderbird. It was discovered that a flaw in the Mozilla SVG implementation could result in an out-of-bounds memory access if SVG elements were removed during a DOMAttrModified event handler. If the user were tricked into opening a specially crafted page, an attacker could exploit this to cause a denial of service via application crash. Atte Kettunen discovered a use-after-free vulnerability in the Gecko Rendering Engine's handling of SVG animations. An attacker could potentially exploit this to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking the Xulrunner based application. Atte Kettunen discovered an out of bounds read vulnerability in the Gecko Rendering Engine's handling of SVG Filters. An attacker could potentially exploit this to make data from the user's memory accessible to the page content. Soroush Dalili discovered that the Gecko Rendering Engine did not adequately protect against dropping JavaScript links onto a frame. A remote attacker could, through cross-site scripting (XSS), exploit this to modify the contents of the frame or steal confidential data. Mariusz Mlynski discovered that the Home button accepted JavaScript links to set the browser Home page. An attacker could use this vulnerability to get the script URL loaded in the privileged about:sessionrestore context. Bob Clary, Vincenzo Iozzo, and Willem Pinckaers discovered memory safety issues affecting Firefox. If the user were tricked into opening a specially crafted page, an attacker could exploit these to cause a denial of service via application crash, or potentially execute code with the privileges of the user invoking Firefox. Various other issues were also addressed.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2012-0323-01 - The Apache HTTP Server is a popular web server. It was discovered that the fix for CVE-2011-3368 did not completely address the problem. An attacker could bypass the fix and make a reverse proxy connect to an arbitrary server not directly accessible to the attacker by sending an HTTP version 0.9 request. The httpd server included the full HTTP header line in the default error page generated when receiving an excessively long or malformed header. Malicious JavaScript running in the server's domain context could use this flaw to gain access to httpOnly cookies.

Cloupia End-To-End FlexPod Management Directory Traversal

Cloupia End-To-End FlexPod management suffers from a directory traversal vulnerability. jQuery File Tree is a configurable, AJAX file browser plugin for the jQuery javascript library utilized within the Cloupia application framework. Unauthenticated access to this module allows a remote attacker to browse the entire file system of the host server, beyond the realm of the web service itself.

Microsoft Internet Explorer JavaScript OnLoad Handler Remote Code Execution
Posted Jan 13, 2012
Authored by Benjamin Tobias Franz, Stuart Pearson, Sam Sharps | Site metasploit.com

This bug is triggered when the browser handles a JavaScript 'onLoad' handler in conjunction with an improperly initialized 'window()' JavaScript function. This exploit results in a call to an address lower than the heap. The javascript prompt() places the shellcode near where the call operand points to. The module calls prompt() multiple times in separate iframes to place our return address. The module hides the prompts in a popup window behind the main window and then it will spray the heap a second time with the shellcode and point the return address to the heap. It then uses a fairly high address to make this exploit more reliable. IE will crash when the exploit completes. Also, please note that Internet Explorer must allow popups in order to continue exploitation.

This Metasploit module exploits a vulnerability in the U3D handling within versions 9.x through 9.4.6 and 10 through to 10.1.1 of Adobe Reader. The vulnerability is due to the use of uninitialized memory. Arbitrary code execution is achieved by embedding specially crafted U3D data into a PDF document. A heap spray via JavaScript is used in order to ensure that the memory used by the invalid pointer issue is controlled.

Bugzilla Chart Generator Cross Site Scripting

RedTeam Pentesting discovered a cross site scripting vulnerability in Bugzilla's chart generator during a penetration test. If attackers can persuade users to click on a prepared link or redirected them to such a link from an attacker-controlled website, they are able to run arbitrary JavaScript code in the context of the Bugzilla installation's domain. Versions affected include 2.17.1 to 3.4.12, 3.5.1 to 3.6.6, 3.7.1 to 4.0.2 and 4.1.1 to 4.1.3.

ClickIt Proof Of Concept

JavaScript allows you to exploit human cognitive abilities to a remarkable extent; tools such as window positioning, history.forward() and history.back(), open some scary possibilities that we are completely unprepared to deal with. This proof-of-concept aims to demonstrate this; while it is intentionally crude and makes no real effort to conceal its operation, the transitions can be made seamless and very difficult to perceive. Very accurate click prediction can be achieved by carefully measuring mouse velocity and distance to destination, too.

It seems that relatively few people realize that holding a JavaScript handle to another window allows the attacker to tamper with the location and history objects at will, largely bypassing the usual SOP controls. With some minimal effort and the help of data: / javascript: URLs or precached pages, this can be leveraged to replace content in a manner that will likely escape even fairly attentive users.
