vthrottle is an implementation of an SMTP throttling engine for Sendmail servers, based upon M. Williamson's mechanisms, as described in his 2003 Usenix Security paper. It allows the administrator to control how much email users and hosts may send, hindering the rapid spread of viruses, worms, and spam. Exceptions can be made using a whitelist mechanism, which can be generated manually or with the included tool vmeasure.

Changes: Miscellaneous updates.

Changes: If multiple virus scanners are installed, they are all used. Default action for viruses (in the sample filter) is now discard. Added a new notification facility to allow external software to react to changes in multiplexor state. It now passes both the raw input message and the unpacked, decoded parts to the virus scanner making virus detection much more reliable.

RAVR is a Procmail recipe that performs content-based (as opposed to signature-based) filtering for common email viruses using Procmail's scoring feature. Emails that are determined to contain viruses are stamped with a header indicating the name of the virus and are then filtered into a user-specified quarantine folder. The purpose of RAVR is to quarantine emails containing the most common viruses currently in the wild.

RenAttach is an e-mail filter/processor which runs from a user's .forward file. It is designed to protect end users (particularly those using Windows) from malicious e-mail attachments. It does not scan specifically for viruses, but rather renames e-mail attachments so that they can not be accidentally executed. It handles both UUencoded and MIME-encoded attachments. It can be used from within sendmail, postfix, procmail, or pretty much anywhere else.

Changes: A man page has been created and Sendmail compatibility has been tested and documented in the INSTALL file. The badlist format was enhanced to allow specific filtering actions to override the defaults.

DSPAM is a server-side anti-spam agent for Unix email servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques, token chains, and Bayesian analysis. The result is an administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. This approach, applied to a mature corpus of email, has the potential to yield a 99.75% success rate with less than a 0.01% chance of false positives.
